Devin Cruise MBA, CFP®

Director in Wealth Management, Partner

Meet Devin

What do you enjoy most about wealth management?

Participating in a process that clients appreciate and recognize as important for themselves and their families. Clients come to us knowing they need to do something, and I enjoy taking the necessary steps to make their dreams a reality.

Whats the biggest challenge?

Convincing clients to keep a long-term investment focus and ignore the crowd. It’s important that clients understand the investment process and that it takes time to achieve the best results, so they can be patient and stick with it.

What do you love most about being part of Aspiriant?

Working with a team of professionals who are all deeply committed to our clients above all else.

What quality of yours makes you best suited to do what you do?

Being able to understand and respect the different perspectives people have about what is important and why. Rather than tell people they can’t do something, I remain open to their points of view and try to come up with a specific plan that meets their objectives.

How should people think about their wealth?

As a limited resource to be used wisely. People should think about what’s the best way to maximize their wealth to meet their vision, whether that's investing it, giving it away, making sure it lasts for future generations in the family, or using it for something else.

What do you love to do outside of work?

Cheering on my kids at their sporting events — hockey, baseball and soccer.

What would you be doing if you weren't working for Aspiriant?

A trail guide in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I camp there every year.

What was the most influential book you've read and why?

“Poor Charlie’s Almanack” by Charles T. Munger for its investment wisdom, especially surrounding mental models and how to think about issues both forward and backward.

What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?

Raising two healthy, intellectually curious and appreciative kids.
