Meet Michael
What do you love most about being part of Aspiriant?
My manager when I first joined Aspiriant, Jordan Overby, took me under his wing and trained me. Jordan inspired me to be similarly passionate and curious about my work as he is, and I’m very grateful for his guidance. I’ve also enjoyed building relationships with those we serve and their families, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for them as I continue to serve them for years to come.
What quality of yours makes you best suited to what you do?
It’s my goal to figure out the “why” behind clients’ needs and decisions. If I better understand their reasoning, I can work more strongly on their behalf. Combining my technical knowledge with my awareness of their situation helps me be the best planner and thought partner for them.
What would you be doing if you weren't working for Aspiriant?
I would be a filmmaker. My dad was a childhood actor and the one who sparked my love for movies. I remember watching Academy Award-nominated films with him as a kid, and then we’d rank our favorite movies and performances together. I still watch most, if not all, Oscar-nominated movies every year.
What was the most influential book you've read and why?
“The Financial Diaries.” This book highlights the economic hardships that many American families face and inspired me to want to help these families.
What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?
My goal was always to become a college graduate. Although my family did not have experience in this area, they supported me and pushed me to achieve that from grade school, all the way until I walked across the graduation stage. I talk about my college experiences with my young nieces and nephews to hopefully inspire them to go to college, just like Uncle Mike.
