Bio
Marcelo is an independent board director at Aspiriant and the Chief People Officer (CPO) for OneTrust, a data management and security company. Marcelo brings an extensive background in personnel leadership and professional and non-profit board service to Aspiriant.
Prior to joining OneTrust, Marcelo established the first CPO position at Robinhood Markets, developed its people strategy, scaled its people practices and successfully led the IPO roadmap for people.
Before joining Robinhood, Marcelo was the CPO for Mercer responsible for the company’s people strategy serving 25,000 colleagues in more than 40 countries. Marcelo delivered this strategy by managing all aspects of personnel, including employee experience and communications.
Marcelo joined Mercer from JP Morgan Chase, where he was general manager for Chase Hispanic Customers and was responsible for driving a culturally relevant strategy for Hispanic customers across Chase. Prior to this role, he was managing director and head of human resources for Chase’s Consumer & Business Banking.
Marcelo has also served as Chief Human Resources Officer for Discover Financial Services. He developed and led Discover’s people strategy and led the unit’s spinoff from Morgan Stanley in 2007. In addition, Marcelo was a member of Discover’s Management and Operational Risk Committees and worked for Prudential Securities and Lehman Brothers.
Outside of work, Marcelo is an investor and board member of Gregory’s Coffee and an advisory board member for Siena College’s School of Business and Modern Executive Solutions, an executive search firm. Additionally, he has served as an advisory board member for HERE to HERE, a non-profit focused on advancing the future of work for inner-city youth in New York City and as a member of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Task Force.
Marcelo earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Siena College.
