Frequently Asked Questions

Aspiriant services

Here are some common questions we get from people who are trying to select a firm, followed by our responses. Of course, there are many more layers to the wealth management onion.

Aspiriant services

Q.

What makes your firm different than the others?

Many things, but here are three of the most important:

  1. We are independent and objective, due to our sustainable business model.
  2. We are owned by our key team members. That makes us aligned with your interests and self-interested in your success. It also means the same team will be working closely with you for a long, long time.
  3. We have extensive multi-family office capabilities for clients who need them, with the ability to draw on multi-disciplinary specialists.

Q.

What's a fiduciary?

A fiduciary has the highest ethical obligation to put your interests ahead of their compensation and any other considerations. Aspiriant is a fiduciary – this is fundamental and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Q.

Why do I need a wealth manager? Can't I do all this myself?

Not really. We believe the planning and investing discipline we provide will align your financial goals with your existential ones, and liberate you from layers of stress.

Q.

Doesn't creating your own mutual funds compromise your objectivity?

It could, but it doesn’t. We designed them for our clients, because we saw a need and an opportunity, and a way not to profit from them. For clients who wish to invest in the funds, we rebate management fees paid to Aspiriant after expenses. There is so much more to say but suffice it to say that we wouldn’t let perception get in the way of doing the right thing for our clients.

Q.

Who's an ideal Aspiriant client?

We have clients of all ages and attitudes. If there’s a consistent thread, it’s that they like working directly with the partners of the firm. They also like the way we combine intellectual ferocity with genuine humor, warmth and affection.
