What’s the biggest challenge?
Market “clutter” and individual skepticism are the backdrop in which we operate and the trust that is needed to be highly effective is not easily gained, nor should it be, which makes it challenging for people to recognize our special value.

I am passionate.

As an opportunity and a calling.
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love walking barefoot in the sand at sunset with my wife, Leyla, and daughter, Brooke, just before a great meal at a sidewalk cafe.
What would you be doing if you weren’t at Aspiriant?
I’d be coaching high school sports in small town USA.
What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
- Provided strategic vision and financial management for some of the most successful families and entrepreneurs of the past few decades.
- Helped a family realize their dream of owning a professional sports franchise.
- Served as a Board Member for several philanthropic organizations whose sole purpose was to create positive community change.
What’s the most influential book you’ve read?
Desire, by John Eldredge, helped open my eyes to the much larger story that we all find ourselves in every moment of every day.
What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?
Hermosa Beach Triathlon finisher, New York Marathon finisher, Metropolitan Theatre Group performer, Cal Poly Rugby team captain.

Prior to joining Aspiriant, Bret served as the President and Chief Personal Financial Officer for Sasco/Roxford One; Chief Financial Officer for Andell Holdings; Managing Director for the Saban Capital Group; Client Service Director and Vice President of Client Financial Operations for myCFO; Chief Financial Officer for The Bubble Factory; and Senior Manager for the business management division of Price Waterhouse.
Bret has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the California State Summer School for the Arts, Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust, and Stand To Reason. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) in the State of California and holds an MBA from California State University and a BA in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University.
