What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?

Watching several of my former employees lead successful careers in Finance.

What quality of yours makes you best suited to do what you do?

Connecting the dots – a CFO is involved in almost all activities of the firm and I enjoy making the parts come together effectively.

What do you love to do outside of work?

Remodeling my 1920s-era home and traveling to interesting destinations with my wife and two daughters.

What would you be doing if you weren't working for Aspiriant?

Working with non-profit organizations to help them understand their financials, and diving for shells in the tropics.

Bio

Doug serves as the Chief Financial Officer of Aspiriant with broad experience leading in dynamic, complex and rapidly evolving business environments.

Prior to Aspiriant, Doug most recently was the acting Chief Financial Officer of Cetera Financial Group, where he led the finance organization and helped the firm successfully emerge from the bankruptcy of its parent company as a newly capitalized private company.

Doug also spent over 15 years as a finance leader at Charles Schwab, rising to Group CFO of the Investor Services division, Schwab’s largest business. His responsibilities over the years there spanned a wide range of key finance functions and nearly every division, including Advisor Services, Retirement Plan Services, Schwab Technology, Charles Schwab Bank, Corporate Oversight, Human Resources, and Finance and Real Estate.

Doug also previously worked as a consultant at Arthur Andersen’s Economic Analysis Group in Washington, D.C., specializing in international transfer pricing and valuation issues for large multinational companies. And he was an economic analyst for the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Mass.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Economics from Harvard College and a Masters of Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
