Director in Wealth Management, Partner

Meet Corey

What do you enjoy most about wealth management?

Helping people solve complex financial problems. Normally, a client will have an idea of what they want to do, such as make a charitable gift, but they don’t know how to go about doing it. I enjoy finding the best tax and financial planning solution for their individual situation.

Whats the biggest challenge?

Challenging conventional wisdom and “rules of thumb.” Often, clients come in with thoughts about how to proceed with investments based upon information they’ve read in the media or other sources. But that plan may not be the best answer for them. I try to teach them why another approach would work better to help them reach their goals.

What do you love most about being part of Aspiriant?

The team-oriented environment and being a part of helping to build a national independent investment advisory firm.

What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?

I’ve been lucky to have a couple mentors who helped me earn the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation as well as graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Investment Management Certificate Program.

What quality of yours makes you best suited to do what you do?

I see myself as someone who is always intellectually curious. I also don’t get excited or dejected easily, which helps when dealing with swings in the financial markets.

How should people think about their wealth?

As a means to a goal. What do you want the wealth to do for you? It’s not just a number on a piece of paper; the higher the better. Scorekeeping is for sports.

What do you love to do outside of work?

Golf, read, spend time with family and friends. I’m also an avid Packers, Bucks, Brewers and Badgers fan.

What would you do if you werent working for Aspiriant?

Coaching basketball or working as a local golf professional.

What was the most influential book you've read and why?

Tough question, a lot of books have influenced me in many different ways, but I suppose I’d go with “The Outsiders” by William N. Thorndike, Jr. The book is broken into stories about eight different chief executive officers and the different and unique ways they thought about capital allocation. I admire every CEO in the book because they all had the courage to challenge conventional wisdom in the short-run, but ultimately achieve long-term success.
